Roofing has become a lucrative industry in Clinton Township MI through the years. If it weren’t, we won’t be recognised by the local community as a greatly-dependable roofing company with decades of experience and education. However, it’s never wise to turn a blind eye towards possible scammers cropping out of nowhere. You’ll want to get quality results for what you’re about to invest, and unscrupulous individuals have no place taking money off of you without providing excellent results.

Fortunately, finding an exceptional roofer nowadays isn’t too difficult. We believe these are the following traits reliable contractors always have:

  • A genuine desire to help
  • Prioritizing certification, workplace safety, and property safety
  • Adapts to any situation and informs clients about it honestly

In truth, you can just summarize a quality roofer’s significant trait in one event: if they care to explain every single process they will do during the beginning, middle, and conclusion of your project.

Baltimore Post Examiner has a great list of the best qualities a local roofer should have in your community. Read more about it below.

1. Make Sure They Have Insurance

The only roofing company you want to work with is one who has insurance. This not only protects you in case an accident happens, but it also protects the roofing company as well.

Ask the roofers if they have both worker’s compensation and liability insurance. It’s also a good idea to ask to see proof of insurance.

Companies who try to skip out on getting insurance may also try to cut corners in their work. You want to work with someone who cares about you and their reputation.

2. Check Out Reviews

The best way to learn how a company works is from customers who have been there, done that. Past clients can give valuable insight into the quality of work and level of customer service.

Get online and check out testimonials on the roofing company’s website. Also, read through reviews on sites like Google and Yelp. Finally, you always want to check with the Better Business Bureau to make sure they’re in good standing.

3. The Lowest Bid Isn’t Always the Best

Roofs aren’t cheap, so it’s tempting to go with the company that offers the lowest quote. But remember, you usually get what you pay for so think twice before deciding solely on price.

Make sure the roofing company backs up its price with a quality job. If you end up getting shoddy work, it could cost you more in repairs down the road.

Also, ask what type of materials the company uses. Quality materials are just as important as the work used to install it. (Continued)

It’s easy to say search engine queries can give a good list of roofers you can depend on. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case all the time. In fact, you might encounter scammers the level of this guy. Northwest Arkansas Online has a story on one of the most vile acts of scamming. Read an excerpt of it below.

A Little Rock man who is a felon with a lengthy criminal history pleaded guilty Monday to a felony theft charge stemming from a scam involving repairs to a local woman’s roof last year.

Howard Gene Hickman, 61, pleaded guilty in Garland County Circuit Court to one count of theft of property over $5,000, punishable by up to 10 years in prison, and was sentenced to six years supervised probation, fined $500 and ordered to pay $190 in court costs.

Hickman was convicted in Cabot in March 2014 of 36 felony counts of theft and was sentenced to six months in the Department of Community Corrections.

According to information from the Lonoke County Sheriff’s Office, the thefts involved a phony business Hickman was running, Gene Hickman’s Custom Homes, offering small, custom-built wooden buildings, ranging in price from $700 to $4,000, which customers would pay for but were never built.

He pleaded guilty in February 2015 in Pulaski County to two counts of theft of property over $5,000 and was sentenced to three years in prison. He was arrested May 6 in Dardanelle on a felony count of theft of services over $5,000 and was set to stand trial Tuesday, but filed a motion to have the case continued. (Read Full)
